Harmonic government

There is a neat passage near the end of Bodin's De Republica where he presents some number symbolism representing what he regards as the best form of rule.  It is monarchy, but monarchy of a specific kind - what he describes as the rule of one unifying and indivisible sovereign but 'tuned' in proper harmonic proportion - concord - with the elements that make up the state.

This is what Bodin sometimes calls 'harmonic government' - in line with the harmonic justice.  I'll save more of this for the book, but these usages of Pythagorean and Boethian musicomathematical ideas are stunning.  I also now have a greater appreciation of the harmony and counterpoint courses I studied in my youth.
