Grotius, Florum Sparsio

Here's another text I had a chance to study in recent days - some of Grotius's commentaries on Justinianic Roman law texts.  The material is uneven and scattered (fitting, given its title) - some topics attract more attention than others, some are ignored entirely.  Still, it is useful to be read in alongside some of his natural law work, to show some of the unity in his legal reasoning.

Grotius, Florum Sparsio ad Jus Justinianeum (Amsterdam: Janssonius, 1643).  Robbins Collections.

Here is an example - Grotius ad l.Labeo.ff.De verb. sign., s.v. Contractum (= D.50.16.19).  His use of the synallagmatic theory referenced in ff.De Pactis is particularly noteworthy.  See my earlier note on the synallagmatic theory.
